Interviewer: So, tell me more about yourself.
Eaten By Clowns: Well, we released our first album in 2009 and we’re still going. We’re mostly a rock band I suppose, but we’ve experimented in a lot of other genres. We do a lot of horror-based themes in our songs, because our name sort of leans that way, and has that vibe you know?
Interviewer: Actually, I’m not really sure what you’re talking about.
Eaten By Clowns: I mean, with a name like Eaten By Clowns, it only felt natural to explore that creepy vibe. We’ve always had a love for goth, among the many other influences of course, but we leaned heavy into that goth vibe for a lot of the lyrics.
Interviewer: What do lyrics have to do with anything?
Eaten By Clowns: With songs like “Turning Off Lights” in particular, it was a song about being inside the mind of a serial killer. Roaming Crazies explores this a bit too, and we’ve had lots of other songs in the past around that same idea as well. We find the psychology of it all fascinating.
Interviewer: This is the most bizarre interview I’ve ever given.
Eaten By Clowns: We get that a lot. Our music isn’t…normal, let’s say.
Interviewer: Are you sure you’re in the right place?
Eaten By Clowns: I’m never sure I’m in the right place, (laughing) but that’s rock and roll for you. That’s kind of how our new album “Weird Bits” evolved. We had some older songs that were just not the right fit for previous albums, and some newer songs that we had been working on. But they somehow all worked together. The signing with I Don’t Fit Anywhere Productions was like the perfect storm. We’re really proud of this album. We like to think our work keeps getting progressively better as our skills have improved.
Interviewer: Sir, this is a job interview for an accounting position.
Eaten By Clowns: Uhhhh, that sounds awful. Why would anyone want to do that?
Interviewer: It’s a job interview! We’re looking for someone to come into our office to help the company with the accounting. What did you think this was?
Eaten By Clowns: I saw the sign in the lobby of your building about interviews and we thought you were a radio station.
Interviewer: That’s the strangest thing I’ve ever heard.
Eaten By Clowns: You must not get out much. Things like this happen to us all the time.
Interviewer: Really?
Eaten By Clowns: No, not really. Usually it’s much weirder. But we like that sort of thing, so it’s all perspective. It’s a shame you’re not a disc jockey.
Interviewer: I’m the head of HR
Eaten By Clowns: Bummer. Being a disc jockey would have probably been more fun.
Interviewer: I might actually have to check out this album. What did you say it was called again?
Eaten By Clowns: Weird Bits! It’s available anywhere music is streamed or sold. We hope you enjoy it! And good luck with the accountant.
Interviewer: I hate this job. Do you guys want to go to a bar?
Eaten By Clowns: Does an octopus have three hearts?
Interviewer: I have no idea.
Eaten By Clowns: We like tequila. Let’s go.
