“Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.”
This has long been a famous saying, and today I want to unpack everything that’s going on here. The first and most obvious question is, who is the Peter Piper? Is there an answer to this mystery? Not one that Google could find, so we moved on.
The next question, as I see it, is what is Peter’s obsession with pickled peppers? Is it a special diet? Is it something he’s not supposed to be eating at home, so he sneaks around eating it so that his wife doesn’t find out?
Why is Peter picking peppers instead of just buying them at the grocery store like a normal person? What is wrong with you, Peter?
How is Peter finding peppers that are already pickled to pick? It takes 3–4 weeks to pickle a pepper. Is he stealing them from other people’s jars of pickled peppers? Is he making his own, then just selecting the best ones? What does he do with the rest of the peppers that he doesn’t select?
Does Peter use his fingers when picking these pickled peppers? Is that even hygienic? Did he wash his hands first? Peter’s such an asshole.
And the last question, which is by far the most important and easily the most puzzling: what in the f*ck is a peck?
